French mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Pengo Bossio Vanguy died at the age of 26 in a shooting in the city of Trapp, located in the suburbs of Paris. This was reported by the sports academy ATCH Academy in Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized in Russia as extremist and banned).
The club expressed condolences to the family and loved ones of the athlete and noted that he was an example for others “on the tatami and beyond.”.
His smile, energy and generosity will remain forever in our club and in our hearts. There are no words today. Nothing can justify a human life being so cruelly cut short, the statement said.
The academy also expressed its support for all those affected by the attack.
On the morning of October 23, an unknown person opened fire on passers-by from a car in a suburb of Paris. As reported by Radio France, as a result of the shooting in the communes of Trapp and La Verrière, a 26-year-old man was killed, four people, including a child, were injured.
The suspect, a 39-year-old man, was detained in the commune of Quanier. He was found with a submachine gun.
The case was initiated by the French National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation is being conducted under articles on murder and attempted murder in connection with terrorist activities. The alleged racial motive is cited as an aggravating circumstance.
French President Emmanuel Macron called the attack in Trapp a "tipping point" in the republic's history. According to him, for the first time in the country, a terrorist attack was carried out, the purpose of which was to kill people “because of the color of their skin or the religion attributed to them.” Macron called on the French to unite and warned against spreading ideas that justify such crimes.
