Burned the day before, October 23, tea house of Adolf Hitler – Kellsteinhaus (“Eagle’s Nest”) will be restored, said the head of the interior Ministry of Bavaria Joachim Herrman.
He explained that the building is of great historical significance and is visited annually by tens of thousands of visitors.
"We can hardly leave ruins alone there," Herrman said.
Earlier, Herrman said that the building is well insured and specialists are already working on possible claims against the insurance company.
Kellsteinhaus is a building in the Bavarian Alps at an altitude of 1834 m above Berchtesgaden. Built between 1937 and 1938 as a teahouse for Hitler and a place to welcome foreign diplomats and guests, Hitler rarely visited it. During the Second World War, the building was not damaged.
Since 1952, it has hosted a mountain restaurant and an exhibition on the site’s history and connection to the Nazi regime. Now Kellsteinhaus is a tourist attraction and belongs to the federal state of Bavaria.
The fire occurred the day before, on October 23. The signal of the fire came shortly after 21:00 (22:00 GMT) on Friday. When firefighters and police arrived at the site, the building was already completely engulfed in flames, and significant forces were deployed to extinguish it.
No one was injured in the fire. On the way to the scene, police met a 33-year-old motorcyclist who was driving towards them. Officers stopped and detained him. The suspect was a resident of Berlin. After his detention, he behaved inappropriately, raising questions about his mental state.
