Tarantino showed an excerpt from the sequel “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” with Pitt
In the new film will reappear Cliff Booth played by Brad Pitt, directed by David Fincher. The film is set in 1977, eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
American film director Quentin Tarantino showed the first 17 minutes of the film “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” at the festival AFI Fest, reports Variety.
Tarantino arrived at TCL's China Theatre in Hollywood after screening Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and after a Q&A session, the director said, "Well, I can tell you a little bit about Cliff Booth's New Misadventures, or I can show you the first 17 minutes.".
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was directed by David Fincher, who also attended the event. Tarantino serves as a writer, producer and consultant.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is the ninth feature film by Quentin Tarantino.
The film received an Oscar in the categories Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt) and Best Director, and was also nominated for an Oscar in the categories Best Film, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Director (Quentin Tarantino), Best Screenplay, Best Operator Work, Best Costumes, Best Sound, Best Sound Editing.
In the new film, Cliff Booth plays Brad Pitt again. The film is set in 1977, while the original film was set in 1969.
“Los Angeles no longer needs a stuntman cracking down on hippies like it used to be. But Hollywood will always have problems—and they can only be solved by someone with Cliff’s unique, sometimes lawless abilities. When he doesn’t earn a living as a bartender or a movie mechanic, Cliff Booth acts as the man who handles Hollywood’s problems—deciding for its most powerful and sometimes not the most deserving people.
In the story, Cliff is intrigued by the call of actor agent Karen Crosby (played by Elizabeth Debicki), who addresses him on behalf of TV star Charlie Peters (Scot Caan), known for performing stunts on his own. At the same time, mysterious gangsters are rampaging in the city - the Verdusco brothers (Matt Grove and Jaybie Tadena).
Tarantino, who wrote the script for the film, revealed why he decided to revisit the character from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
I usually don’t remember quotes from positive reviews of my films. But I remember quotes from bad reviews. But one phrase about the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” I still remember. It seems to be the first world created by Quentin Tarantino that he would like to live in. And there's really something about that. I really liked Cliff Booth's character. I loved the way Brad played it. It had something of a hero of cheap paperback adventure novels. I could imagine a whole series of such books, in which Cliff Booth gets involved in one adventure, then in another.
The new film will premiere in IMAX theaters on November 25, and the film will appear on streaming on December 23.
In response to questions, Tarantino said that he offered Burt Reynolds the role of George Spahn and he agreed. However, before filming began, Reynolds died.
“But we had time to rehearse with him and read the script. So the last acting performance of Burt Reynolds was the role of George Spahn while reading the script.
In the end, this character was played by Bruce Dern.
Earlier, Tarantino said on The Graham Norton Show that he wrote the script for his tenth and final film. As Variety wrote, the director has long stated that he will shoot ten feature films, after which he will retire.
"I wrote a script that I really like, but I want to do this play and understand who I am; then I'll come back, spend time with my family, live my life a little bit, and then see what I want to do next," he said.
