Omsk won the contest “New Year’s capital of Russia”
Omsk received the status of “New Year’s Capital of Russia” for the season 2027-2028.
Omsk received the status of “New Year’s Capital of Russia” for the season 2027-2028. This was reported by the Governor of the Omsk region Vitaly Hotsenko. The decision was made by the Ministry of Culture after considering applications from the regions of the country.
Hotsenko thanked the team of the Ministry of Culture, personally Minister Olga Lyubimova, as well as the presidential administration of Russia for their support and trust. The Ministry, in turn, congratulated Omsk on its victory in the competition and expressed readiness to provide the city with comprehensive information support for the organization of all planned events. This is stated in a copy of the letter addressed to the government of the region.
New Year’s Capital of Russia is a project of the Ministry of Culture, which is aimed at popularizing inbound and domestic tourism. This status helps to attract tourists and show them the sights of the region.
Each year, the city that receives this status is selected on a competitive basis. Experts take into account the availability of venues for mass festivities, the experience of holding similar events and the level of development of the network of cultural institutions.
Last year, the New Year’s capital was Ryazan, and in the season 2026-2027, Vologda carries this status with the Vologda winter program, which will be held from December 12, 2026 to January 9, 2027.
