89-year-old resident of Saransk lost 7.5 million rubles due to fraudsters
The scammer introduced himself as an adviser to the head of the plant - a man used to work there.

In Saransk, an 89-year-old pensioner went to the police, becoming the victim of fraudsters who stole a large sum of money from him. One of the criminals posed as an adviser to the head of the enterprise, where the victim previously worked. According to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, on October 1, the man received a call from an unknown person who reported an alleged leak of personal data at the plant, which could lead to their use by attackers.
The scammers persuaded the pensioner to buy a new phone, install a messenger and withdraw cash from the bank, and also instructed the bank employees what to say. Within a few days, the man several times withdrew 2.5 million rubles, transferring the money to the courier under the conditional phrase “Dark Night”. On October 15, when the pensioner tried to withdraw another 1.5 million rubles, bank employees suspected something was wrong and contacted his son, who took his father home.
Later, contacting former colleagues, the man learned that there was no data breach. By this time, he has already lost 7 million 520 thousand rubles.
