One of the major changes is the ability for high school students to study all subjects at a basic level. From 2023, all high school classes should have one of six profiles – agro-technological, natural-scientific, humanitarian, socio-economic, technological and universal. From the choice of direction depends on which subjects will be studied in the in-depth program (for example, in agrotechnological it is biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics). For schoolchildren whose choice of subjects for in-depth study did not fit into a certain category (they, for example, want to intensively study English and biology), there is a universal profile. It is impossible to study all subjects according to the basic program. From September 1, 2027, high school students will again have this opportunity.
The new edition of the GEF also provides an opportunity to strengthen the class profile through elective (additional) courses. For example, within the technological direction, there may be engineering (to train future design engineers) or information (to train future programmers) groups. Schools have used this option before, but now it is prescribed at the level of educational standard.
In addition, changes were made to the content of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. The main task of the amendments, as explained in the Ministry of Education, “to make the educational material more practice-oriented and relevant to modern scientific achievements, closer to real technological tasks.”.
