The authorities of Sevastopol are working on the creation of a park named after Yuri Luzhkov, Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said. In 2025, on the facade of the House of Moscow in the center of Sevastopol, a memorial plaque in honor of the former mayor of Moscow was opened.
According to the governor, Mr. Luzhkov “was a true friend for Sevastopol,” who helped the city and the Black Sea Fleet “in the most difficult years.” In 1999, in Sevastopol, on the initiative of Yuri Luzhkov and the rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy, the Black Sea branch of Moscow State University was created. With the support of the ex-mayor, the historical Lazarev barracks were restored, new educational and scientific buildings, a hostel, cultural and leisure and sports complexes appeared. The city also has a school named after Mr. Luzhkov.
Today Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov would have turned 90 years old. It is important for us that the memory of Yuri Mikhailovich does not remain only in the memories of those who knew him personally. So that young Sevastopol residents understand who was near the city in the most difficult times and who helped create its future, Mikhail Razvozhaev explained.
Yuri Luzhkov was the second mayor of Moscow: he held this post from June 6, 1992, until in September 2010 he was dismissed “due to the loss of the trust of the President.” After that, the former mayor took up agriculture. He headed the agro-industrial complex "Weedern" in the Kaliningrad region, bred breeding horses and bees. Mr. Luzhkov died in 2019 in Munich.
