Alexander Novikov spoke about the large-scale autumn cleaning in Smolensk

The head of the city of Smolensk, Alexander Novikov, said that utilities were transferred to an enhanced mode of operation to maintain cleanliness on the streets. Cleaning is carried out daily and around the clock, covering both central highways and yard areas.

Main areas of work

Cleaning roads and sidewalks: Smolenskavtodor removes dirt, sand and fallen leaves from the asphalt. For this, both mechanized complexes and manual labor are involved. Particular attention is paid to wet cleaning by combined road machines, which effectively remove fine dust and prevent its spread throughout the city.

Cleaning showers: This is a critical area in autumn. Rain grates and pipes are quickly clogged with a mixture of debris, sand and wet foliage. To avoid local flooding, even in moderate rains, crews regularly survey and flush key network nodes.

Leaf export (“Zelenstroy”): From lawns and squares leaves are taken out daily. Up to 8 machines are involved in the work (5 cubic meters each). For example, on the street of the October Revolution, cleaning has already been done three times, and in the park Klimenko – four times since the beginning of the season.

Authorities emphasize that the approach to cleaning is differentiated. On sidewalks and well-groomed lawns, the foliage is removed to preserve the regulatory state. However, in natural areas of parks, where it does not interfere with people, it is left behind - this protects the soil and serves as a natural fertilizer.

The works are under the control of the administration and are adjusted taking into account weather conditions.
