The metropolitan market of data centers faced with an acute shortage of supply and an inevitable increase in the cost of services.
According to Expert, in the second quarter of 2026, the average price of a server rack with a capacity of 5 kW reached 170.8 thousand rubles, an increase of almost 16% compared to last year. The researchers attribute this dynamic to limited supply and critical power shortages. Moscow and the Moscow region now account for 80% of all data centers in the country, but the resources of local generation are actually exhausted.
In this regard, analysts recommend business to review the geography of infrastructure. The most promising areas are Siberia, the Urals, as well as the Tver, Murmansk and Leningrad regions. While distance from users increases network latency, these regions offer much more favorable terms for long-term storage.
