The accident at the CHPP-2 left Krasnoyarsk without heat: why the situation is repeated

What happened

On the evening of October 16, a technical failure occurred at the Krasnoyarsk CHPP-2. During work with an oil switch in the system, the pressure of the coolant dropped sharply. To prevent the accident, power engineers temporarily stopped one power boiler and one retaining pump.

Without normal heating remained residents of October, Railway, Central and Sverdlovsk districts. Dozens of addresses fell into the blackout zone - from Akademgorodok and Botanical to the historical center and right bank.

What did you do

Work on the station was completed by the evening of the next day. CHPP-2 reached the standard parameters of heat supply, but the SGC warned: the recovery process is not instantaneous. Heat returns to apartments gradually - the speed depends on the distance of the house from the station.

“The supply of the resource to consumers has not stopped, but the heat parameters remain temporarily reduced. Fully parameters will return to normal by the end of the day, — explained in the company.

Why is this happening again

This is not the first time that Krasnoyarsk residents are left with cold batteries due to problems with heat supply equipment. Last winter, there was an incident on the boiler house EVRZ: one of the boilers was out of order in the peak of frost, and residents of the Railway area faced interruptions.

It was after that case that the authorities accelerated the transfer of consumers from an outdated boiler house to CHP-2. By the start of the heating season of 2026-2027, 34 apartment buildings and 8 social institutions were switched to the station. It is also expected to reduce emissions by 483 tonnes per year.

However, the current failure showed that even on the updated infrastructure, emergency stops are possible. The question is how quickly the energy industry eliminates the consequences – and whether residents receive compensation for hours without heat.

There was a modernisation - and the use?

SGC is not the first year to report on large-scale investments in Krasnoyarsk energy. In September 2026, the company solemnly completed the environmental modernization of CHP-1: three old pipes were replaced with one height of 275 meters, installed 15 electric filters with cleaning efficiency above 99%. Investments - more than 25 billion rubles. The company said that particulate emissions will decrease by 80%, the total volume by 20%.

Almost immediately after that, Krasnoyarsk re-introduced the “black sky” regime from September 22 to 25. The tall pipe helps dissipate emissions, but does not eliminate them. During calm and inversion, pollutants accumulate near the ground regardless of the height of the pipe.

A similar story is with the EVRZ boiler house. SGC reported on the early transfer of consumers to CHPP-2: 34 apartment buildings and 8 social institutions received heat from a more reliable source, emissions should be reduced by 483 tons per year. However, the boiler house itself is not completely closed - it will continue to produce steam for the needs of the plant.

And now the CHP-2 malfunction. The station, which was supposed to be a “reliable replacement” for outdated capacity, was itself vulnerable. Formally, SGC does not recognize the shutdown: “the supply has not stopped, the parameters are temporarily reduced.” But for residents, the difference is small - the batteries have cooled.

Krasnoyarsk residents, whose batteries are still cold, are advised to contact management companies or district heating hotlines, which were launched in September.

Earlier, we told that in Krasnoyarsk, an employee of a heat supply company was arrested for a bribe from the Criminal Code.
