Charity project “Care+” to help the elderly started in Orsha district

Charity project “Care+” to help lonely elderly started in Orsha district of Vitebsk region. This is a joint initiative of the territorial center of social services of the population and the Youth Council under the Orsha district Council of Deputies, reports sb.by.

Students are volunteers. Twice a week, children leave after lessons on applications received by the social service. Help the elderly clean up in the house, on the homestead, complete the last autumn work in the garden, buy food or medicines, escort to the clinic and so on. In fact, high school students try on the role of a social worker, do a good deed and get valuable experience in communicating with representatives of the older generation, said Ekaterina Murenkova, director of the Orsha district TCSON:

- All the students were trained by our specialists. Volunteers help to reach our wards who need social services with great attention. We have even introduced the service “Grandson for an hour”, because often the elderly also need simple human communication. The project is important not only to increase the availability of social assistance, but also to educate the younger generation. Teenagers learn respect for the elderly, adopt their everyday wisdom.

The project “Care +” is being tested in the city. It is possible that in the future it will spread in rural areas, shared Ekaterina Murenkova.
