Bryansk explained when the court can oblige to keep elderly parents
To be eligible for alimony, a parent must be disabled and need financial support.

Adult residents of the Bryansk region may be obliged to pay alimony to disabled parents if they need financial assistance. At the same time, the court takes into account not only the income of both parties, but also how the parents performed their duties to raise children.
The grounds for recovery of payments are provided for in Article 87 of the Family Code of Russia. To be eligible for alimony, a parent must be disabled and need financial support. Reaching retirement age or having a disability is not enough.
The amount of monthly payments the court determines individually. When considering the case, the income and expenses of the parties, marital status, the presence of an adult child of their own children and other dependents are taken into account. The amount is set in solid monetary terms, and it can be both above and below the subsistence minimum.
The court also checks whether the parent participated in the upbringing and maintenance of the child. If it turns out that he evaded his duties, an adult son or daughter can be released from paying alimony. Children are also not obliged to support parents deprived of parental rights.
If parents and adult children agree to provide or receive financial assistance, they may enter into an agreement. In the absence of an agreement, the issue is resolved through the court.
