The Central Bank made a statement for everyone who has money on hand
The Central Bank appealed to the owners of cash: how not to lose money because of dilapidated bills and counterfeits.

The regulator has issued important clarifications for citizens who prefer cash transactions. One of the most common mistakes people make is to throw away dilapidated, torn or dirty banknotes, believing they have lost their value. The Central Bank emphasizes that any bank branch is obliged to replace such banknotes with new ones free of charge. The refusal to conduct this operation is a direct violation of the rules.
Special emphasis is placed on protection against counterfeiting. Fraudsters most often copy large denominations, primarily five thousandth bills. To avoid forfeiture or checkout issues, check your money for three key features:
• To the touch: authentic banknotes have pronounced relief elements.
• Watermarks should be clear and clearly visible.
• Through a magnifier: Look for special protective fibers and microtext.
If the banknote causes even the slightest suspicion, do not try to pay it in the store or in the market. Such actions can be regarded as an attempt to sell fake money and lead to serious proceedings with the police. The only right step is to take the questionable bill to the bank for free examination.
Also, experts remind about the risks of storing large amounts at home. Cash is vulnerable to theft, fire or trivial loss, and the state does not compensate for these losses. In contrast, bank deposits are reliably protected by the deposit insurance system (DIA) in the amount of up to 1.4 million rubles.
In the discussions, users actively share their experience: many were surprised to learn about their legal right to exchange worn-out money, while others complain about the increasing incidence of counterfeits in the form of change. Be financially literate and save your savings!
