What should not Volgograd residents do on October 28, on the day of Ethymius Autumn
October 28 in the national calendar celebrates the day of Ethymius Autumn. Our ancestors were sure that it was from this date that the heat finally gives way, so we had to prepare for winter in advance, observing strict household taboos

The main motto of the day is to finish all preparations before sunset. While the men were repairing roofs and hemping walls, the women were engaged in household routines. Leaving the business unfinished was considered dangerous: according to legend, evil forces will necessarily spoil what they started.
In the morning there was increased vigilance. Random passers-by did not look into the eyes and did not give hands, and solo hikes in the forest or long trips were categorically not welcomed, especially for the fair sex.
In order not to anger the house scum, housewives were forbidden to do laundry or ironing. It was believed that Kikimore in revenge will break needles, break dishes or damage the household. Girls on this day it was impossible to braid their hair, so as not to incur illness and loneliness.
Financial issues were better postponed: the recount of coins promised inevitable losses. Also, quarrels and complaints about fate were strictly forbidden. Despondency, according to popular ideas, angered the housekeeper, who began to hide things, and scandals threatened to develop into a protracted enmity.
In order not to lose friends, it was forbidden to sit on the corner of the table, click seeds or leave unwashed dishes for the night. And to admire the starfall in the dark was considered a bad omen, prophesying family troubles.
