What the Intercession predicts: folk signs on October 14
On October 14, the Orthodox celebrate the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God. In folk tradition, this day is considered the border between autumn and winter, and it determined the nature of the coming cold weather.

According to signs, if snow fell on Pokrov, winter will be snowy and early. The rain on this day portends a damp and rainy winter. The north wind promises severe frosts, the south - a mild and warm winter. If the cranes flew to the Intercession, winter will come early and will be cold. Leaves on birch and oak, not fallen by this day, speak of a harsh winter. Warm cover promises a late and mild winter.
