"December will be absolutely anomalous." Forecasters shocked by the new forecast
Siberia, the Urals and even the European part of Russia are at risk of extreme cold weather.

The outgoing 2026 has repeatedly surprised Russians with weather anomalies, and, apparently, the finish line will not be an exception. Russian meteorologists have presented a preliminary forecast for December, and it looks really harsh. Winter seems to have decided to take revenge on previous months.
The most serious tests are expected in the Asian part of the country. Already in the first decade of December in Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Khabarovsk, thermometers can confidently drop to -30 degrees. The Far East is at risk of becoming the epicenter of the elements: by the end of the month in Vladivostok and the surrounding territories, frosts up to -40 degrees are not excluded.
The western part of Russia will not remain warm either. Residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg in early December can expect frost to -20 degrees. And in the second half of the month, according to preliminary estimates, in some areas of the European territory of the country, the temperature can collapse to -25...-30 degrees.
However, experts urge not to panic and treat long-term forecasts with a dose of healthy skepticism. Meteorological models are continually adjusted as fresh data becomes available. Claims of “historically unprecedented” cold weather are only a preliminary scenario.
Forecasters recommend to follow the current warnings of specialized services and not to take current calculations as the final verdict. But to get the warmest down jackets, hats and thermal underwear from the far drawer of the cabinet is still worth it in advance - just in case.
