"December will be absolutely anomalous." Forecasters surprised by a new forecast
From minus 30 in the Urals to minus 40 in the Far East: what anomalies Russians should prepare for and whether long-term models should be trusted.

The coming December is preparing the residents of Russia a severe test. According to Russian meteorologists, the first winter month will not be an exception to the rule of this year, which is already remembered by frequent weather anomalies. Instead of a soft entry into the winter, we are waiting for a sharp and large-scale cold snap.
The toughest conditions are expected in the Urals and Siberia. Already in the first decade of December, thermometers in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, as well as in Khabarovsk can confidently drop to -30 ° C.
The Far East risks becoming the epicenter of cold weather. By the end of the month in Vladivostok and neighboring regions, thermometers can break through the bottom, reaching a frightening -40 ° C.
The western part of the country will not be left aside from the winter elements. Muscovites and St. Petersburg at the start of the month should prepare for frosts up to -20 ° C. And in the second half of December, weather forecasters allow further intensification of cold weather: in some regions of European Russia, the temperature can drop to -25 ...-30 ° C.
However, experts urge not to panic in advance. Long-term weather patterns are highly variable. They are regularly adjusted as fresh data from satellites and ground-based weather stations become available. Therefore, it is not necessary to take the current figures as the final verdict. It is better to follow the operational reports of profile services and insulate housing as real cold weather approaches, rather than their predicted models.
