Day of colorful umbrellas: instructions for combating autumn grayness.

Autumn is no cause for sadness. October 21 in the calendar is marked as the Day of multicolored umbrellas - an unofficial, but very kind holiday, invented to combat seasonal meddling.

It is believed that the tradition was born in Japan at the beginning of the XXI century thanks to the artist Akiko Yasuda. She suggested giving up boring flowers in favor of bright colors to cheer herself and all passers-by around. There is also a beautiful literary reference: to the umbrellas that Ole Lucoye wore from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales. Over obedient children, he opened a colorful dome with pictures to give them colored dreams.

The umbrella itself has gone from a symbol of power to a necessity. In ancient China and Egypt, only pharaohs and emperors could walk under them. From sun to rain accessory repurposed Englishman Jonas Henway in the XVIII century. At first, people laughed at a weirdo walking in the rain with an umbrella until they appreciated the convenience of the invention.

In Russia, the holiday does not have a strict script. In social networks, people arrange flash mobs with photos of bright spots against the background of clouds and encourage to rejoice in every cloudy day.

The main rule for October 21 – and maybe the rest of the month – is simple: leave a boring black umbrella at home. Autumn takes a lot of light, and adding colors is the task of everyone who has an automatic opening button in their hands.
