Petrozavodskmash environmental initiatives: from protecting rare birds to reducing carbon footprint

Design engineer of the Petrozavodskmash plant Andrey Anderson created an atlas of birds of Karelia. He photographed more than 90 species, and directly on the territory of the enterprise - more than 40, including the Red Book.
At a meeting with representatives of the national park "Vodlozersky", students of PetrSU and eco-activists, a presentation of an unusual reference book was held. Its author is an engineer of the Karelian machine-building plant, who in his spare time is engaged in birdwatching. During the observations, the specialist found that rare species of birds included in the Red Book of the Russian Federation live on the territory of the enterprise: klushi chose the roofs of the workshops, and black cossacks settled near the pier for shipment of products. In addition, hawks and nightingales were seen in the factory zone.
In addition to supporting ornithological initiatives, the plant is actively implementing the environmental agenda. Thanks to the renewal of production facilities and the transition to modern “green” standards, over the past four years the company managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5 thousand tons. According to Petrozavodskmash specialists, this result is comparable to the planting of a forest area of 800 hectares.
Petrozavodskmash is a key industrial enterprise in the region, leading its history since 1960. Since 2010, the plant is part of Rosatom. Today, the site specializes in the production of equipment for nuclear power plants, which is supplied not only to Russian stations, but also to facilities in India, China, Turkey, Belarus and other countries.
