Head of the basic department of analysis of geophysical information and meteorological forecasts of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of NCFU Robert Zakinyan explained the reasons why the street is much warmer than indoors.
He noted that the reason is related to the features of the material from which the house is made. In descending order of thermal conductivity, materials are arranged in the following order: metal, brick, glass, wood, air. In everyday life, the opposite characteristic is important, which is called "thermal insulation", so the most thermal insulation materials are arranged in the opposite order - first wood, then brick, and then iron.
If the heat source is inside the room, the heat will not go away so quickly, and the room will have time to heat up and maintain a comfortable temperature. If the heat source warms the building from the outside, then due to the same thermal insulation properties of the material, the heat will be slower to enter the room, and it will not have time to heat up.
The expert also added that while not all Russian regions have turned on internal heating, inside the room due to poor conductivity and good thermal insulation of the materials from which the house is built, it will be colder, since the heat will not have time to come from the outside.
