At the highest point of Europe - the Western peak of Elbrus - now the flag of Zheleznovodsk flutters: the banner of the resort city was raised by Alexei Parkhomenko to a height of 5,642 meters.
The head of Zheleznovodsk, Yevgeny Bakulin, noted that for Alexei this is not just another height, but a confirmation of high professionalism, and it is noteworthy that the mountains for him are not only a hobby, but also a profession: in everyday life Parkhomenko is engaged in industrial mountaineering, performing the most difficult tasks at height, and also works as a guide.
The mayor congratulated Alexei on his successful ascent and expressed pride that the flag of Zheleznovodsk has now visited the roof of Europe. Climbing Elbrus requires serious acclimatization and physical preparation, and the Western peak is considered more difficult than the Eastern one, due to the long and steep route.
For Zheleznovodsk, which develops the brand as a balneological and mountain resort, such a gesture became an additional reason to declare itself outside Stavropol.
Earlier it was reported that 17 km of snow-holding barriers will be built on Elbrus to protect against avalanches.
