With the onset of the autumn period, the issue of pedestrian visibility on the roads becomes especially relevant. Early darkness, rainy weather and unlit sections of streets significantly increase risks for those who walk, especially in rural areas. In such conditions, retroreflective elements play a key role in ensuring safety, allowing drivers to notice a person at a much greater distance.

As noted by the head of the department for agitation and propaganda of the traffic police of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Roman Volchek, it is during this period that the need to control the use of retroreflective elements and carry out preventive measures increases:
- In autumn and winter, we pay special attention to the use of flickers and conduct raiding activities on sections of roads where the risk to pedestrians is higher. Since the beginning of the season, more than 800 cases have been identified when people were on the carriageway without reflective elements. Such situations are dangerous: without a flicker, the pedestrian becomes noticeable to the driver too late, especially in the dark.
During preventive measures, traffic police officers are not limited to fixing violations. Inspectors carry out explanatory work, explain to citizens how reflectors affect safety, and pass flickers to children and the elderly. It is noted that illustrative examples and demonstration of the effectiveness of such elements increase the willingness of people to use them in everyday life.
- Reflective elements are a simple and affordable tool that can prevent tragedy. Wearing a flicker requires no extra effort, but greatly increases the distance at which a driver can spot a pedestrian and gives him time to maneuver safely. The traffic police urges residents of the Brest region to pay attention to their own safety and use reflectors when driving in the dark, said Roman Volchek.
