Fomin day October 19: why it is necessary to bake bread and count supplies
October 19 – Fomin day: in the old days on this day they shared bread and were afraid to borrow.

The apostle Thomas was considered the patron saint of thrift. Hence the saying: “Take everything to Tomom” (except for a secluded place for grain). If the boxes were full, a fragrant loaf was baked. The edge with salt was necessarily given to newborns, birthday parties and sick people. They believed that this bread gives health. Thomas did not help the wasteful people.
This day was special for children. Mothers put seven-year-old daughters in the weaving camp, transferring their skills. The fathers showed the adult sons family bins, symbolically allocating part of the grain for future independent life.
The apostle, doubting the miracle, became a symbol of incredulity. But more often he appears in a comic duet with Herema. Sayings like “We searched for Erema, but found Thomas” or “Thoma pushes radish, and Erema garlic” ridicule nonsense, remaining surprisingly accurate and funny.
What not to do on October 19:
• Deny bread. You can't say no to the needy, otherwise the wealth will leave the house.
• Take and lend. Otherwise, you will be in financial trouble all year.
• Lie and gossip. Deception on this day with a boomerang returns to the gossip, multiplying the negative.
• Overeating and swearing. The food should be simple and the words clean. Eating is believed to attract poverty.
• Laying around. It is better to devote the day to useful things and restore order.
