Front of works - more than 900 hectares: republican action "Give the forest a new zhyzze!" started in Belarus

From 17 to 24 October, Belarus hosts a republican action “Give the forest a new zhyzze!” The official start of the reforestation campaign was given in the Borovlyansk Special Forestry. Details are reported by sb.by correspondent.

- According to tradition, the Ministry of Forestry annually holds the events "Give the forest a new jelly", "Forest! Dabro! Paradak!". And this year was no exception. We expect that as in previous years, at least 100,000 people will take part in the action, which is a very impressive figure. It is planned that about 800 plots will be involved in this action, on which new forests will be created, and their area will be more than 900 hectares. During this action, we expect to plant more than 4 million seedlings and seedlings of various types of wood forest species.

The Minister drew attention to the fact that special emphasis during the work will be placed on areas damaged by windbreaks and windfalls this year:

- This year alone, we have damaged more than 18 thousand hectares of forest plantations by strong gusty winds. Of these, about 7 thousand require continuous deforestation and reforestation in the future. Therefore, the goal is to afforest these areas.

- I believe that anyone who has ever participated in the action will never have a negative attitude towards our Belarusian forest, the minister said.

He thanked those who have already responded and are working in the forest.

- All state bodies actively participate in the action, a lot of organizations have joined all over the country, Sergei Uldinovich said. The weather is beautiful, the mood is good.

- But I think these events will continue later. The fact is that now the most favorable conditions for the creation of new forests, the minister emphasized.

The place for the start of the action, in which members of the Council of the Republic took part, chose a site affected by last year's windbreak in the Kolodishchansky forestry of the Borovlyansk special forestry farm. Director of the special forestry Alexander Mironovich introduced the case:

- The site was hit by hurricane winds on July 29, 2025. At one point, in five minutes, 120 hectares of forest that were developed last year were affected. In the current area, we are making artificial reforestation. Forests have already been created on 70 hectares. Today we will add another 3 hectares.

They plan to plant 16.5 thousand plants - pines and firs. Planting material with improved genetic qualities is used for work, it is more resistant to diseases.

But first - safety briefing, since the tools - Kolesov's sword and forest planting pipe - are not easy, with pointed ends. The planting technology is as follows: at a distance of 70 centimeters from each other, four pines are planted, after one spruce, and so repeat until the end of the row, slightly trampling the ground around the tree. You can check how correctly the work is done by trying to slightly pull the plant on yourself.

Among those who joined the action today is Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergey Aleynik. He shared his views on the importance of the event:

- Belarus is the lungs of Europe, and today we fill these lungs with new oxygen, plant new trees, work for the quality of life of our future generations, our children and grandchildren.

Actively supports the action and youth. Chairman of the Youth Council under the Council of the Republic Alina Retkova said:

- The Youth Council is always involved in all improvement activities. First of all, we feel a sense of belonging to the fact that by our work in an informal friendly atmosphere we can lay a new forest. Years later, we'll come here with our kids to see how the trees we planted grew.
