Where in Belarus were filmed world cinema: a guide to the cult places of filming - from Mir Castle to the streets of Grodno
Belarus as a film set of world cinema: Mir Castle, Grodno, Brest and Minsk. Choose a route to filming locations for a weekend trip.

Belarus has long been a film set for international cinema: a Hollywood thriller with Sylvester Stallone, a French drama, Russian blockbusters and historical series were shot here. We have collected the most interesting film locations that can be visited in one weekend – from UNESCO castles to Grodno streets, which played Berlin and Krakow.
Mir Castle: the country's main movie star
Mir Castle is the most recognizable open-air film studio in Belarus. It was first shown in cinema in 1928: in the silent film “Pan Tadeusz” directed by Richard Ordynsky, the castle became the scenery for the adaptation of the poem by Adam Mickiewicz.
Later, military dramas “Through the Cemetery” and “Eastern Corridor” were filmed here, and after the restoration – “Sniper”. Weapon of Retribution, where the castle became a German town, and 1812: The Ulan Ballad. In 2024, the World also became one of the locations of the adventure film “Black Castle” based on the novel by Vladimir Korotkevich.
What to see: the castle itself, the chapel-tomb of Svyatopolk-Mirsky, the park and the view of the fortress from the pond. The complex is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
How to build into the route: from Minsk to the World - about 100 km, the trip takes about an hour and a half. It is convenient to unite the World with Nesvizh: this is a classic route "two castles in one day".
Grodno: the city that “played” Kiev, Krakow and Berlin
Grodno is called “Belarusian Hollywood”: more than 50 films were shot here, including “White Dews”, “Cortic”, “Bronze Bird” and “My Name is Arlequino”.

The city often “reincarnated” in other places: in the film “Babi Yar” it became Kiev, in “Without the right to error” – Krakow, and in “Follows of the Apostles” Ozheshko street turned into Berlin with German signs. Filming of “White grew” partially took place in the village of Devyatovka and on the central streets of Grodno – Soviet, Telman and Karbyshev.
What to see:
- 1.Alley of cinema with plates dedicated to films shot in Grodno since 1956.
- 2.Ozheshko Street and Soviet Square, where stands about shooting are installed.
- 3.The Old and New Castles, the Farny Church and the Kolozhskaya Church are the historical background that makes the city especially cinematic.
For the weekend trip: Grodno is convenient to make the main point of the route - here you can walk all day, and in the evening go towards the Mir or Novogrudok.
Brest Fortress: the shooting place of the “Brest Fortress”
Brest Fortress became the main stage of Alexander Kott’s film “Brest Fortress” in 2010: almost all the key scenes were filmed directly in the memorial. For the picture, pre-war decorations and an exact copy of the Holmes Gate were built.

This is one of the strongest film locations in the country both in the atmosphere and in the historical context. The museum of the complex has an exposition dedicated to the work on the film.
What to see: Kholmsky gate, citadel, memorial sculptures and defense museum of the Brest fortress. The area is suitable for a long walk, so it is better to lay at least half a day on it.
Minsk: from Stilag to Pyrammid
Minsk is the most popular city of Belarus among film crews: in the database of film places it is attributed the largest number of productions. Here filmed the Russian musical “Styliagi”, the thriller “Pyrammid” and the French film Arnaud Deplechin “Three memories of my youth”.

For Stilag, Independence Avenue was blocked, and the facade of GUM was decorated under Moscow in the middle of the XX century. The Palace of Trade Unions in the Pyrammid played the office of MMM Bank, and the National Art Museum appeared in a French painting.
Film route in Minsk:
- 1.The railway station is the location of the series "Station" and films of the 1980s.
- 2.GUM and Independence Avenue - "Styliagi".
- 3.Oktyabrskaya Street is also a film set “Styliag”.
- 4.National Art Museum – Three Memories of My Youth.
- 5.October Square and the Palace of Trade Unions – Pyrammid.
What to take with you
- 1.Comfortable shoes: Castle complexes and old towns involve a lot of walking.
- 2.Cash or card: tickets to museums and individual sites should be checked in advance.
- 3.Time reserve: in Mir Castle on the exposition and the territory should lay at least three hours.
Belarus can really offer a route for a moviegoer: in two or three days you can see places where Soviet classics and modern international projects were filmed. The main thing is not to try to cover all the locations at once: it is better to choose one line - castles, Minsk or Grodno - and pass it slowly.
