Geologist: shallowing of the Caspian Sea increased the area of Dagestan

Several islands administratively related to Dagestan became land due to shallowing of the Caspian Sea, as a result of which the area of the republic increased by two to three thousand square kilometers. This was reported by RIA Novosti geologist, candidate of geographical sciences Idris Idrissov.
According to the scientist, the drop in the water level in the Caspian Sea simultaneously increases the land area. Such islands as Evichy, Chechnya, Pichuzhonok, Bazar and Jumpers have already connected to the mainland, and you can come to them by car. The area of Dagestan is now not 50.3 thousand square kilometers, but about 52-53,000.
Idrissov noted that to understand the real state of the region’s nature, it is necessary to create new official topographic maps of the coastal zone and the Caspian Sea as a whole.
According to him, with a drop in sea level, even less than a meter will finally connect to the mainland and the island of Nordovy area of about 63 hectares, located in the Kizlyar Bay. At the same time, the geologist added that the sea will continue to decline, but such a rapid rate of decline, as after 2020, can not last long.
