The Museum of Local Lore "Roots of Ancestors" of secondary school No. 50 of the city of Grozny won the All-Russian competition of school museums of the Russian Society "Knowledge".
The Museum of School No. 50 became the best in the nomination “Best Museum Practice”. In total, 4,696 representatives of school museums from 89 regions of the country took part in the competition. According to the results of the final tests, 70 educational organizations became laureates.
The Roots of the Ancestors Museum was founded in 1981, and after the loss of archives during military campaigns, it began to revive in 2004. Today, its collection includes 123 items donated by students’ families, teachers and locals. The exposition introduces visitors to the history, life and traditions of the Chechen people.
Among the most valuable items is a metal jug dating from around 1905. The museum also presents ancient utensils, national costumes and objects of traditional life. Special attention is paid to the involvement of schoolchildren in the study of historical heritage: students conduct excursions, explore pedigrees, participate in research projects and master traditional crafts. On the basis of the museum, master classes are held on the manufacture of the Chechen carpet "stanang" and sculpting clay jars.
The victory in the All-Russian competition was a recognition of the museum’s experience in organizing educational activities and introducing the younger generation to the history and culture of their native land. As a reward, the winners will receive equipment for the development and renewal of museum expositions.
Earlier it was reported that Grozny schoolchildren won the All-Russian presidential sports games on volleyball.
