“A fire chariot will come out of Kiev”: Elder Zosima predicted severe trials for Russia – what he said about the future
Believers are looking for answers in the words of the schiarchimandrite to questions about today’s upheavals, but is everything unequivocal with his “predictions”?

The name of schiarchimandrite Zosima (Verkhovetsky) has long been surrounded by a halo of secrets. The Orthodox community is still actively discussing his “prophecies”, trying to find references to modern geopolitical cataclysms. The most controversial is the mysterious image of the “chariot of fire”, which, according to legend, should escape from Kiev and bring turmoil to the Russian lands.
The words attributed to the elder warned of a global confrontation, where the West would seek hegemony, and Russia would face severe trials. Zosima allegedly foresaw attacks on the faith itself, the purpose of which is to sow panic. However, the main message was not to be discouraged: Holy Russia, he said, will emerge from the crisis with God’s help.
A special place in "heritage" Zosimy occupies the Ukrainian theme. He is credited with predicting a deep schism when Christian brothers will find themselves on opposite sides of the barricades. Many attribute this to recent church strife and conflict.
But we need to engage in critical thinking. Historians and theologians remind that the exact written evidence of many of these “prophecies” during the life of the elder did not survive. A significant part of the quotes is folk art, formed after the fact. People just put a mystical flair over real historical facts.
Nevertheless, the image of the “chariot of fire” continues to excite minds. For some, this is a mystical warning, for others – an occasion to reflect on the spiritual state of society.
