How to improve the quality of drinking water in Belarus, told the Ministry

Belarus plans to reconstruct group water intakes, replace worn-out water supply and sanitation networks, and build new communications. To eliminate accidents, utilities are increasingly using trenchless technologies that reduce the volume of excavations and preserve landscaping. About this in the program "Tik-Tolk" told the Deputy head of the Department of utilities and energy Ministry of housing and communal services Irina Salivonchik.

What the plan provides

To improve the quality of drinking water, there are several main directions:

  1. 1.reconstruction of group water intakes;
  2. 2.replacement of water supply and sanitation networks that are operated beyond the regulatory period;
  3. 3.construction of new networks;
  4. 4.modernization of water and sewage facilities.

Such measures are provided by the state program "Comfortable housing and favorable environment" for 2026-2030. It is planned to reconstruct and repair group water intakes, deironization stations, as well as replace worn water supply networks.

According to her, housing and communal services organizations are already fulfilling the tasks of state programs at an advanced pace.

Repairs without extensive excavations

A separate direction is the use of trenchless technologies. They are used in the repair and replacement of pipelines, so as not to open large sections of roads, sidewalks and courtyards.

“The trenchless way is not new. It is designed to minimize issues related to the further improvement of territories, explained Irina Salivonchik.

With this approach, specialists gain access to the pipeline through small work holes and carry out the necessary operations underground. Modern technologies allow replacing certain types of pipes without continuous excavation of the territory.

“The asphalt does not need to be broken, and then restored,” said the representative of the Ministry.

At the same time, such technologies do not eliminate the need for planned replacement of worn-out networks. They allow repairs to be carried out more accurately and with less impact on the urban environment.

The challenge for the coming years

In 2026, Belarus plans to replace hundreds of kilometers of water supply and sanitation networks with an expired standard life. In particular, the target is 328.57 km of water supply networks and 148.9 km of sanitation networks.

Thus, improving the quality of drinking water will be ensured not only by monitoring water intakes, but also by updating the entire system - from the source to intracity communications and consumer homes.
