How to rest for the New Year 2027: official weekends, transfers and production calendar

The Russians are waiting for a continuous 11-day rest in the New Year holidays of 2027. December 31 will be a non-working day.

When the New Year holidays begin and end 2027

The official New Year weekend in 2027 is set from 1 to 10 January inclusive.

December 31, 2026 (Thursday) will be an official day off. This became possible due to the postponement of the day off from January 3, 2027.

January 1, 2027 (Friday) is the first day of the New Year.

january 2 (saturday) and january 3 (sunday) are calendar holidays, which by law must be added to the new year holidays.

4, 5, 6, 7 (Christmas), January 8 - non-working holidays.

january 9 (saturday) and january 10 (sunday) are the final weekend of the january marathon.

Russians will rest from December 31, 2026 to January 10, 2027. The first working day falls on Monday, January 11.

How transfers were distributed: why December 31 was a holiday

The duration of the holidays in 11 days is the result of competent work of the Ministry of Labor with the production calendar. In order not to break the working week in early January, the agency applied a standard scheme for transferring weekends that coincided with holidays:

Sunday, January 3, moved to Friday, December 31, 2026. The decision spares the country a short and uncomfortable work week in 2027.

Saturday, January 2, moved to Friday, November 5. Thanks to this, in November 2027, a long four-day weekend (from 4 to 7 November) to the Day of National Unity is formed.

Production calendar 2027: working days and weekends

In total, in 2027, with a five-day working week, there will be 249 working days and 116 weekends and holidays. In 2026, there were more weekends — 118, and working days — 247.

In addition to the January holidays, the production calendar of 2027 will please Russians with a few more long weekends:

February: February 21-23 (Day of Defender of the Fatherland). Saturday, February 20, will be a working day to free up Monday.

March: March 6-8 (International Women's Day).

May: two-block holidays - from 1 to 3 May and from 7 to 10 May (postponement from 2 January).

June: June 12-14 (Russia Day).

November: November 4-7 (National Unity Day).

What you need to know about work during the holidays 2027

According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the presence of 11 days off in a row does not cancel the rules for attracting to work on holidays.

Work on official non-working holidays (1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 January) is paid at least twice.

Instead of double payment, the employee can choose an additional day of rest. In this case, work on the holiday is paid in a single amount, and the selected day of rest is not paid.
