How to prepare fruit trees for winter: gardener Dmitry Kastritsky's advice
Autumn garden care is the key to a rich harvest next year. An experienced gardener tells how to properly make fertilizers, conduct moisture-charged watering and mulch trees.

Autumn is the time to prepare fruit trees for winter. Safely survive the cold season and form a good harvest next season will help feeding, sufficient watering and mulching of trunk circles. About all the nuances told the gardener Dmitry Kastritsky.
Now trees continue to grow, and many of them are still actively growing. The most important thing is that these growths mature before the onset of cold weather. If this does not happen, there will be frost in the winter. It is also important that there is a good laying of fruit buds for the next year's harvest.
For this purpose, feeding is carried out. We use potash fertilizers for it. Feed fruit trees, for example, potassium sulfate: one tablespoon of potassium sulfate per 10 liters of water. Dissolve fertilizer and shed trees under the root. Under a young tree, apply about 5 liters of solution.
If the tree is large, you will naturally need several buckets of solution. To feed the large trees, puncture holes along the perimeter of the crown and pour the solution there. Important point: if the soil is dry, first it should be well poured with clean water, and only then apply a solution of fertilizers.
- 1.Drug: potassium sulfate (1 tbsp. l. per 10 liters of water).
- 2.Dosage: about 5 liters for young trees, several buckets for adults.
- 3.Technology: adult trees are watered through punctures along the perimeter of the crown, dry soil before the procedure must be abundantly poured with clean water.
Another important work, especially for young trees, is keeping the trunk circles clean. The fact is that in young plants the root system is still weak, and if the trunk circles are overgrown with weeds, they take all the moisture and nutrition. Therefore, the camera should always be clean.
We drop out all the weeds and mulch the ground with mowed grass or other material so that moisture remains there and new weeds do not grow in the future.
- 1.Problem: Weeds take away water and nutrition from the weak root system of young trees.
- 2.Solution: Regular weeding of trunk circles and their subsequent mulching (for example, mowed grass) to retain moisture and protect against weeds.
In fruit-bearing trees, we do not forget to remove rotten fruits. Rotten fruits are a source of disease, so carefully examine the trees. If we notice the rotten fruits, we rip them off and send them to compost.

We also remove the fallen carrion: the fruits can be wormy or rotten and, again, serve as a source of spread of various pests and diseases. Don’t forget to take care of the fruit trees so you can have a good harvest again next year!
