The number of wild animals in Belarus is gradually increasing. What individuals most, said the head of the hunting department of the Ministry of Forestry of Belarus Alexander Kozorez, reports sb.by.

- Last year, the number of the noble deer was about 57 thousand individuals, elk - 47 thousand, roe deer - 130 thousand. Because of them, the number of large predators is growing: bears - 1,289 individuals, wolves - more than 2 thousand.

Population growth is associated with biological causes, migration of animals from the territory of Russia and better accounting. The potential threat they pose is associated with road accidents, damage to forest and agricultural crops, the spread of diseases in the wild, in especially rare cases - attacks on humans.

Collisions with wild animals are possible throughout the country, but there are areas with an increased likelihood. A large population of noble deer is concentrated in the area of Belovezhskaya Forest. It is more likely to meet a bear in the Vitebsk region, although recently information has been received about the walks of clubfoots in the Ivatsevichi district - bears come to the photo traps.

Meetings between man and beast also happen. In 2021, the emergency service received two calls about bears, last year there were already 22 such appeals. The reasons listed by Alexander Kozorez:

- Clubfoots react to food dumps. Without feeling the presence of a person, they sometimes go to sparsely populated villages. They also like to eat honey, so they go to the apiaries. Without a fence, beekeepers take risks. In rare cases, additional measures are required in the form of special repellents, an electric fence.

Wolves are traditionally considered potentially dangerous animals, but attacks on humans have not been recorded for a long time. Although there are more than 200 cases of meetings with people in recent years: in 2021 - 23, in 2023 - 90, in 2025 - only 12 cases. At the same time, over the past five years, almost 200 head of cattle have died because of these animals. Often the reason is the lack of proper fencing of places where grazing takes place.
