Calugans told about the traditions of Andrew the Blessed
Today Orthodox Caludians honor the memory of Blessed Andrew, Christ for the sake of the fool

Today Orthodox Kalugans honor the memory of Blessed Andrew, Christ for the sake of the fool. This day occupies an important place among church celebrations, as it is dedicated to one of the outstanding ascetics.
The saint lived in the tenth century in Constantinople. It was bought at the slave market by the dignitary Theognost, who gave it to study Holy Scripture.
Once in a vision, Christ called Andrew to the feat of folly and he began to live in poverty, suffered ridicule, insults, beatings, hunger, cold and pretended to be insane, distributing the alms received to those in need. The Lord gave him the gift of vision and prophecy.
The fact is that folly for Christ’s sake is a unique form of austerity for the sake of spiritual purity. The fools in Orthodoxy are a living embodiment of the Gospel commandment that “the wisdom of this world is madness before God.”.
On the day of memory of Andrew in Orthodox churches held solemn services and pray for intercession, wisdom and peace of mind. The saint is considered the patron saint of those who need spiritual support.
Special attention has also been paid to helping the poor and needy.
As reported by “MK in Kaluga” earlier, Orthodox Kaluga celebrate the Intercession Day.
