Kaluga endocrinologist told about the cause of the “fog” in the head of women
Dr. Svetlana Cherepok outlined the main symptoms of perimenopause

Dr. Svetlana Cherepok outlined the main symptoms of perimenopause.
Bright manifestations of this period in the life of the fair sex are not only changes in the menstrual cycle.
According to the doctor, hot flashes and night sweats occur in 80-90% of women.
Many suffer from sleep disorders, difficulties
with falling asleep, frequent awakenings, which are often associated with tides.
The specialist also tells about psycho-emotional changes: anxiety, irritability, “fog in the head”.
“This is due to the direct influence of hormones on the brain, and not only with the “nerves”, – says Svetlana Cherepok.
The endocrinologist also explained why perimenopause is a time of chaos.
“Estrogen and FSH jump like crazy. Today's analysis will show one thing, tomorrow another. Therefore, it is simply impossible to “catch” a diagnosis with a single blood test, she emphasizes.
During this period, as the doctor explains, it is impractical to watch the hormone FSH - its level can be deceptively low.
It turns out that estradiol fluctuates daily, without reflecting the real picture
Therefore, a full “hormonal panel” does not make sense.
According to the doctor, the clinical evaluation will be fundamental. The doctor will assess the nature of the cycle and symptoms. It'll cometerate with age.
If there are complaints of fatigue and cycle failures - then it will be necessary to check the thyroid gland and pass TSH, as well as to see the level of ferritin.
"Hypothyroidism and iron deficiency may disguise themselves as perimenopause," he said.
During perimenopause, densitometry is needed - it is advisable to assess bone density.
Women at this age lose calcium more quickly.
“And it is better not to miss the onset of osteoporosis,” Cherepok recommends.
Among the mandatory screenings, the doctor calls mammography, cervical screening, lipidography,
blood test for glucose and glycated hemoglobin.
“The period when a woman’s estrogen declines is associated with an increase in cardiovascular disease.
It will not be superfluous to exclude deficiencies of ferritin, 25(he) vitamin D and check the level of calcium, the doctor advises.
If a woman is under 45, then, as the doctor says, it is necessary to rule out premature ovarian failure.
"If the cycle has disappeared for 2-3 months, but you are not 45, you need to exclude other reasons - check prolactin, TSH," says the endocrinologist.
