Canadian defender CSKA Jeremy Roy became a citizen of Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree granting Russian citizenship to Canadian hockey player of CSKA Moscow Jeremy Roy, Italian journalist Vincenzo Lorusso and other foreigners. The relevant document is published on the official resource of legal acts.

Roy, 29, plays as a defender at CSKA. He was born in the Canadian city of Richelieu, Quebec. In 2015, the NHL club San Jose Sharks chose him in the second round of the draft under the overall number 31, but the Canadian did not play for the main team.

He continued his professional career in the American Hockey League, where he played for San Jose Barracuda and the San Diego Galls. Later, he spent the season in the Slovak “Zvolen”, and in 2022 he signed a contract with the suburban “Vityaz”.

During his three seasons with Vityaz, Roy played 200 games in the Kontinental Hockey League, scored 15 goals and gave 73 assists. In the summer of 2025, the defender moved to CSKA, concluding a two-year agreement.

Roy’s sporting achievements include victory at the Ivan Glinka Memorial as part of Canada’s junior national team, a bronze medal at the World Championship among players under 18 and participation in the KHL All-Star Game in 2023.

Russian citizenship was also received by 19-year-old Swiss hockey player Itay Golan, who previously played for the Nizhny Novgorod club Torpedo-Gorky in the All-Russian Hockey League.

The decree mentions Italian journalist Vincenzo Lorusso, born on May 16, 1971. He founded the telegram channel “Donbass Italy”, which publishes materials about the events in the Donbass for an Italian-speaking audience.

In addition, Russian citizenship was granted to several foreign journalists of RT. Their names are listed in the document.
