Kiev predicted power outages up to 20 hours a day in winter

Residents of Kiev in the coming winter can remain without electricity up to 20 hours a day. Such a scenario is possible with the continuation of massive strikes on the energy infrastructure against the background of severe frosts. This is reported by the Ukrainian edition “Economic truth”, which analyzed the state of the power system of the capital.

According to the publication, the duration of outages will depend on the extent of damage to power plants, substations and power lines, as well as the speed of restoration work.

With a relatively favorable development of events, restrictions can be 8-10 hours a day. If strikes on power facilities continue, and some equipment remains damaged, the duration of outages can increase to 12-16 hours.

The most severe scenario involves regular massive attacks on key substations and other power grid facilities simultaneously with the onset of severe frosts. In this case, residents of the Ukrainian capital are at risk of getting electricity only four hours a day.

Long-term shutdowns are especially dangerous for municipal infrastructure. From a stable energy supply depends on the work of pumping stations that provide water, heating systems, urban transport and communications.

At the same time, the representatives of the energy industry interviewed by the publication believe that a complete cessation of power supply to Kiev is unlikely. However, they do not rule out long-term restrictions on serious infrastructure damage.

Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergei Koretsky warned that the upcoming heating season may be more complicated than the previous one. Amid energy problems, Ukrainian authorities are also taking steps to reduce non-defense budget spending.

Last winter, damage to power facilities caused power and heating disruptions in most regions of Ukraine. To distribute available capacity, power companies introduced shutdown schedules.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously explained the attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure by the need to reduce the military and economic potential of the enemy. Russian President Vladimir Putin also linked such actions to the response to attacks on Russian facilities.
