Command-Staff Exercise with Western Operational Command Begins in Belarus

In Belarus, from September 15 to 18, a command-staff exercise (KSU) with the Western Operational Command under the leadership of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense Major General Pavel Muraveyko is being held, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.

The theme of the exercise is “Management of troops of the operational command during the strategic operation of the Armed Forces”. The main goal is to train management bodies, formations and military units of the operational command to jointly solve problems in the course of preparing and conducting a strategic operation of the Armed Forces.

The General Staff stressed that the exercise is carried out in accordance with the Plan for the Training of the Armed Forces in the 2025/2026 academic year. It is one of the main measures of training the unification forces, is purely defensive in nature and is aimed, among other things, at increasing the ability of the troops to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.

The educational environment was created taking into account the analysis of the experience of modern military conflicts and trends in the development of armed struggle. During the KFU, it is planned to work out the management of the grouping of troops (forces) when covering the state border of Belarus, ensuring martial law, including the search, blocking and destruction of sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the enemy and illegal armed formations, as well as combating small-engine aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles of the enemy.

In addition, it is envisaged to work out the issues of using unmanned aircraft systems, camouflage, ensuring survivability, restoring combat capability and comprehensive support for the actions of troops (forces).

The training involves the management of the association with units of support, protection and maintenance, one mechanized (tank) battalion with means of reinforcement from mechanized brigades, as well as the management of military units that are part of the operational command. Practical actions of the troops of the operational association will be held at the training grounds "Gozhsky", "Brest" and "Ruzhansky", as well as on areas in the territory of Brest and Grodno regions.

The number of participants in the exercise, as well as the number of main weapons systems, do not exceed the parameters specified in the Vienna Document of 2011 and subject to notification.

- We are starting a command-staff exercise with the troops of the Western Operational Command, Muraveyko said. In the spring, during a large-scale check of the combat readiness of the Armed Forces with this association, a comprehensive exercise was conducted. Based on its results, we assessed the work of the headquarters, their ability to make decisions in a rapidly changing environment, as well as the ability and readiness of the association to prepare and conduct an operation in reduced time intervals by 50-60%. In the spring, many things turned out and gave us the ground for reasoning and making appropriate decisions.

According to Muraveyko, now the Western Operational Command will test the issues laid down in the modern control system, and approaches to the organization and deployment of control points. The main directions are decision-making, operational movement on the ground, deployment of control points by cluster type.

- We deliberately focus on the preparation of the headquarters, because today a lot depends on decision-making, the speed of work of officials, the ability of the communication and control system to transmit appropriate signals, he said.

P. Muraveyko also said that offensive actions within the framework of the exercise are not considered. Arguments that the Armed Forces of Belarus are allegedly preparing to attack neighboring countries are absolutely groundless and have no real directions, real results.

According to the results of the exercise, the General Staff want to get an answer to how much the command troops are adapted to modern conditions of warfare and how capable they are of implementing relevant elements in the organization of management and building a control system.
