Lermontov site: an echo of the history of Kislovodsk

In the historical center of Kislovodsk, where the Resort Boulevard meets the first alleys of the national park, the Lermontov site froze in stone. This is not just an architectural ensemble made of warm sandstone, but a real portal to the “golden age” of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, where the shadow of the great poet is guessed behind each bend of the railing and each column.
From the Bernardazzi brothers to the memorial
The history of this place began long before the bas-relief of the classic appeared here. In 1823, a wooden State Restoration was erected on this elevation - the first secular center of the resort, created by the legendary architects Bernardazzi brothers. Balls thundered in its halls, capital news was discussed, and among the guests Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Lermontov strolled. Later, in his novel A Hero of Our Time, the poet will turn this building into a stage for the key events of the chapter Princess Mary.
The wooden walls of the restaurant did not spare time, and in 1948 a memorial platform was built on its historical foundation. It seems to have grown out of the rock itself, connecting a solemn three-march staircase with a classic portico, which added to the ensemble's complete grandeur in 2004.
The Grotto and His Prisoner
The main mystery of the Lermontov site is hidden in its base. There, behind the massive wrought-iron grille of a stone grotto, a demon lurks in the twilight.
The sculpture, installed in the 1960s, has a mystical appeal: the piercing gaze of the defeated spirit from the poem of the same name seems alive, especially during the hours of evening lighting. The Grotto of the Demon became one of the most photographed points of the city, reminiscent of the rebellious nature of Lermontov himself.
Modern rhythm of the old terrace
Today, Lermontovska Square is a living public space that has preserved the aristocratic spirit of the past. Its observation terraces offer impeccable views of the Narzan Gallery and Colonnade, allowing tourists to feel the scale and elegance of the resort center.
But the area is not only remarkable for the species. In the evenings, the melodies of street violinists and flutists sound here, and in the shade of old oaks, local chess lovers and backgammon traditionally gather. This continuity makes Lermontovska the soul of Kislovodsk, a place where time slows down, giving way to literature, history and inspiration.
Earlier it was reported how the Arc de Triomphe of Stavropol survived the destruction and returned to life.
