Lipchan warned about fraudsters stealing accounts of dead people using AI

Scammers began to massively use the accounts of deceased people to deceive their relatives and acquaintances. About the new schemes using digital profiles of the deceased Lipchan told experts on cybersecurity in an interview with “Izvestia”.

According to R-Vision technical account manager Alexander Vinokurov, most often scammers hack into inactive pages that have a history and trust of contacts. With the help of artificial intelligence, they create deepfakes and clone voices, after which they send messages to colleagues and acquaintances with a request to transfer money or click on malicious links. Timely to notice the hack is difficult, as abandoned profiles no one controls.

Experts recommend residents of the Lipetsk region to set up autodelete accounts in social networks in advance with prolonged inactivity or appoint a “digital heir”. If a request for help comes from the profile of the deceased person, the information must be rechecked through alternative communication channels through relatives.
