In Belarus, there is no need to pursue anyone politically, since all processes in the country are under control. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said this at a meeting with US special envoy for Belarus John Cole on September 15, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports.
The head of state drew the guest’s attention to the fact that there are no political prisoners in the republic, because there is no such article in its legislation. However, there is much talk about the release of people who are under investigation by law or in forced labor colonies.
- I lead you to the main topic. Our fugitives are dispersing the topic in the West, and I feel, according to my information, they have convinced you that we are letting someone go here, but while continuing the repression, we are detaining people in this place twice as much. I want to tell you publicly that this is absolutely not true, BelTA quoted the president as saying.
He stressed that there is no goal instead of freed people to send new people to the colonies.
- That's not a problem. We don't and we won't do that. These are our Belarusians, Alexander Lukashenko said.
He explained that people, regardless of nationality, can be prosecuted only if they commit offences. It has nothing to do with politics.
- We do not need to pursue anyone politically. There's absolutely no need. Because all processes in Belarus are under control, Alexander Lukashenko concluded.
