Magnetic storm does not threaten the Volgograd region on October 17

After geomagnetic disturbances at the beginning of the week, the situation gradually becomes calmer. According to the forecast of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy IKI and ISZF RAS, on Saturday, October 17, magnetic storms are not expected.

At the same time, the geomagnetic background will remain elevated: the Kp index will be about four points, remaining in the “yellow zone”. Experts estimate the probability of a magnetic storm at 7%, and geomagnetic disturbances at 45%. The solar wind speed is 482 km / s.

By the evening, a further decrease in activity and almost complete stabilization of the geomagnetic situation are predicted.
