Magnetic storms retreat: what awaits the Earth on October 15
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, the geomagnetic situation in Novosibirsk will begin to stabilize after the recent disturbances.
According to the forecast of the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, the maximum index of geomagnetic activity on October 15 will be about 3.3 points. Such indicators correspond to small disturbances and do not reach the level of the magnetic storm G1.
The most noticeable fluctuations are expected in the morning. From about 10:00 to 13:00 Novosibirsk time, the Kp-index can rise to 3.3 points. After 13:00, the indicator will gradually decrease.
By the evening, geomagnetic activity will weaken to 1.7-2.3 points, which corresponds to a calm environment. The probability of a weak magnetic storm occurring during the day is estimated by NOAA experts at about 5%.
On Friday, October 16, serious geomagnetic disturbances are also not predicted. The maximum Kp index is expected at 2.7 points.
Despite the calm forecast, experts continue to monitor solar activity. The geomagnetic environment can vary depending on the speed of the solar wind and other processes on the Sun.
