Mom's a teacher, Dad's a builder. Both are raising two children: a statistical review of the family

A week of parental love will be held in Belarus from 14 to 21 October. It combines Mother’s Day, which is celebrated on October 14, and Father’s Day, which is celebrated on October 21. For this event, the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus prepared a statistical review of the family. According to the 2019 census, there were more than 2.6 million families in Belarus. Almost half of them – 43.7% – raised minor children. Most parents grew up the only heir, a little more than a third of families raised two children, three or more – 9.2%.

As for the capital, according to the Committee on Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Minsk City Executive Committee, more than half a million families live in the city. In terms of the number of children, the picture differs little from the republican one: the majority of mothers and fathers have so far decided to have only one child. But there is something to strive for: there are about 16 thousand large families in Minsk, in which more than 51 thousand children are brought up. By the way, one of the measures of state policy aimed at supporting families with children is the award of the Order of the Mother. Since the first presentation, which took place in 1996, 1,221 Minsk women have received a high state award.

What do average Belarusian parents look like? Both Belarusians, who live in the city, have higher or secondary special education. My mother often works in education or trade, my father in manufacturing or construction.

It is noteworthy that the average age of the mother at the birth of the first child in the country was 27.6 years, and in the capital - 30.1. Minchanka women later residents of other regions of the republic decide on the appearance of subsequent children: 34 years against 30.5 in Belarus.

Representatives of the fair sex more. In Belarus live 4 045.1 thousand women and 3 294.7 thousand men. There are 827 men per 1,000 women in Minsk. The average age of Minsk women is 43.7 years, but the statistics are silent about the age of gentlemen.

Despite everything, two halves meet and create families. In 2025, 52 thousand marriages were registered in the republic. In the capital, the march of Mendelssohn sounded for 13.7 thousand couples. Most of them, 71.4%, exchanged gold rings for the first time.
