Mazut in hot water: residents of Sudnikovo are afraid of poisoning

It is worth starting with how events developed. Local authorities preferred to talk about the accident in Sudnikovo as “temporary commissioning inconveniences.” However, the deadline for fixing the problem has expired and the water quality has reportedly not changed. From the hot water taps still flows a dark oily liquid with a distinct smell of fuel oil.

As reported by the channel “Volokolamsk Podsovereed” in the messenger MAX, the reason is an error in the installation and adjustment of a new boiler house. The boiler room itself in Sudnikovo runs on gas. But according to Russian building standards (SP 89.13330), such boiler houses must have a supply of liquid fuel - diesel or fuel oil - in case the gas is turned off in winter. This stock was brought to the facility and began to check the backup system. During the inspection, something went wrong: due to damage to pipes, leaky heat exchangers or an error during installation, fuel oil under pressure fell into hot water pipes. Not in heating, but in hot water – that is, in the water in which people wash and wash dishes.

However, the supply of petroleum products to the GVS is only part of the problem. If petroleum products are already circulating inside the system, the consequences for the boiler house itself can be severe. Mazut is able to clog the filter resins and membranes of the automatic chemical water treatment station - the same one that was called one of the main advantages of the new facility at launch. It is reported that the restoration of such a station can cost millions of rubles and take months. But there is a more serious risk: the decomposition products of fuel oil settle on the inner walls of new boilers. This disrupts heat exchange and can lead to overheating of the metal and its deformation up to rupture of the tubes. To prevent rupture, BMC automation must emergency shut down the boiler room. If this happens, thousands of people will be left without heat and hot water at the height of the heating season. Cold batteries in October are no longer a "temporary inconvenience" but an emergency.

Moscow has already passed this “quest”. In October 2026, residents of the Katyushka microdistrict in Lobna opened the crane and saw a thick dark brown liquid. One resident filmed the video and it was shared on social media, including on local telegram channels. In the comments, residents expressed bewilderment: they asked what they pay for the new tariffs, if this water can not be used for drinking, cooking, or bathing children. Utilities did not respond. People bought bottled water at their own expense.

In August 2026 in Kashir-2 after the planned disconnection of hot water from the taps went dark substance with a technical tinge. At first, people hoped that the water would return to normal in a couple of hours, but the problem lasted for a week. Parents wondered how to bathe small children in such water. The management company explained what happened with water blows and rising sediment in old pipes, but the sediment is not oily. In the Ramena district, after the modernization of the boiler house, residents also complained about the smell of oil products in hot water. Utilities first referred to commissioning, then to old pipes, after which they stopped responding to appeals. Finally, in the Volokolamsk district back in 2024, residents of Sudnikovo complained that the water in the public well smells of gasoline and is impossible to use. The problem was blamed on an “unknown source of pollution.” Now we are talking about centralized water supply.

What to do if oil flows from the tap: a memo from "MK"

Do not use water for drinking, cooking or bathing. Even for hand washing, petroleum products are absorbed through the skin.

Record the fact: take a video, photograph the color and consistency, save the sample in the bank, close tightly and sign the date and time.

Call the emergency dispatch service and request to register the application. Record the address number and the name of the dispatcher.

Send official appeals to the management company, the local administration and Rospotrebnadzor. Require laboratory analysis of water for the content of petroleum products.

Keep checks for bottled water. This is the basis for recalculating the fee for poor-quality utility services and potentially for a lawsuit.

Unite with neighbors. Collective complaints are processed faster than single appeals.

While the administration continues to talk about "old rust," petroleum products continue to flow into apartments. If the situation does not change in the coming days, the residents of Sudnikovo have grounds to demand not only a recalculation, but also an inspection of the prosecutor’s office for violation of sanitary norms and rules of operation of a dangerous production facility. The boiler room with fuel oil reserve refers to objects of increased danger, and errors during its commissioning are not “inconveniences”, but a direct threat to the health of hundreds of people.
