Belarus reaffirms its readiness for constructive cooperation with the IAEA. This was stated by the head of the Belarusian delegation, the permanent representative of the Republic of Belarus to international organizations in Vienna Andrey Dapkiunas, speaking on September 16 at the 70th session of the IAEA General Conference.

The Belarusian diplomat expressed his conviction that “by joint efforts of the member states it is necessary and possible to ensure the safe and sustainable development of the peaceful atom”.
Belarus considers it important to further develop international cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The IAEA has a special place in this work, Andrei Dapkiunas noted. There is a growing interest in nuclear energy. The possibilities of using nuclear technologies in medicine, agriculture, industry and other fields are expanding.”.
The diplomat noted that Belarus advocates that the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy be available to all states capable of ensuring its safe and responsible use.
“We support the practical focus of the agency. We consider initiatives in the field of food security, nuclear medicine and the fight against infectious diseases as an important example. We particularly note the growing interest in small modular reactors and the Agency’s contribution to the development of international cooperation in this area, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus emphasized.
