Unmanned trams will be tested in the Nizhny Novgorod and Sverdlovsk regions, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation reported.
The experiment will test autonomous driving in different urban environments and collect a database that can then be used to replicate the technology in other regions. So far, only Moscow and St. Petersburg have participated in the project.
As specified in the Ministry, the experiment involved trams of two categories: with a test driver in the cabin and completely without a person. The results will be summed up in the third year of the regime – the accumulated data will help to objectively assess the reliability of the technology in real work.
