The CIS Geoportal contains information about the monuments of the Great Patriotic War and universities of Belarus – Never

On September 16, Chairman of the State Property Committee of Belarus Vitaly Nevera took part in the 48th session of the Interstate Council on Geodesy, Cartography, Cadastre and Remote Sensing of the Earth of the CIS Member States in Moscow. During the event, the strengthening of technological and digital interaction of the Commonwealth countries through joint projects was discussed, the correspondent of sb.by reports.

One of the important interstate projects of the CIS is the Geoportal of spatial data infrastructure of the CIS member states (Geoportal of the CIS). This digital platform, commissioned in 2026, provides the ability to work with open spatial data and access to 4 electronic services to solve specific life situations in the field of tourism, education, investment and employment. Currently, electronic maps of Russia and the Republic of Belarus are integrated into the Geoportal. The occupancy of the portal from Russia reaches almost 100%, from Belarus and Kyrgyzstan - more than 50%.

The Republic of Belarus has entered data on the administrative division of the country, roads. As part of a joint project with Rosreestr, we have made information about the monuments of the Great Patriotic War on the portal. Information about educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus is also posted. Now we are working with the National Tourism Agency to fill in information about tourist sites of the Republic of Belarus. We are gradually moving forward and updating this CIS project with new services and new data. We have a great interest in it, because I would call the Geoportal a very good business card of any country that is able to show all its potential, everything that is in the country, to give dedicated information to any user, said Vitaly Nevera.

The public part of the CIS Geoportal is posted on the official website of the Commonwealth. Since the beginning of 2026, the portal has been visited by more than 50 thousand users. Data on the Geoportal comes from the information systems of the relevant departments of the project countries. The mechanism and formats of data exchange are determined by agreements – they are currently concluded with Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

- The development of the CIS Geoportal is a key issue of today’s discussion, the portal is the main integration project for us, a single team project. It is not easy, seven countries are involved in it, and we make decisions in the development of this project together, added Oleg Skufinsky, head of Rosreestr.

As reported in Rosreestr, to date, more than 17 million objects are placed on the platform - tour routes, cultural heritage objects, monuments of the Great Patriotic War, hotels, universities, vacancies, investment sites. Based on feedback from users, sections with the most popular data are formed: historical heritage sites, events and festivals. The portal also hosts the services “I am a Tourist”, “I am an Employee”, “I am an Investor”, “I am a Student”, helping to choose places of rest, work, study. It is expected that in the near future a service in the field of sports will appear on the portal.

In the future, it is planned to create a CIS Digital Atlas on the basis of the Geoportal, forming maps on topics (Nature and Ecology, Population and Economy, History and Culture). It can be used for educational and scientific purposes, as a tool for the development of the economy and attracting investment, as well as the development of tourism potential.
