Restored order in the yard, removed the foliage: Wolfovysk schoolchildren joined the action “Dobro.Bel”

Participants of the republican youth marathon “Dobro.Bel”, which BRSM launched this year, continue to perform monthly thematic tasks in certain areas. October is dedicated to the attention of the older generation. Today, October 17, schoolchildren from the Volkovysk district joined the action “Good to the Elders” – the guys provided targeted assistance to the 83-year-old resident of the agro-town of Shilovichi, writes sb.by.

We were greeted with a charming smile and surrounded by a labor force outside her cozy home by the landlady Danna Poltorak, who is 83 years old, but even at this age, she takes care of dozens of flowers on the site and keeps her own farm.

- I wake up and immediately look out the window at my nature, how my garden grows there, Danna Stepanovna shows at her flower garden at the entrance to the house. I can't live without flowers! I leave the house and admire these picturesque views. Watching nature change around you is a pleasure!

An educator by education, Danna Poltorak managed to try a lot in life: she worked as a librarian, teacher, accountant in the local collective farm, but most of the time - as the head of the post office. For many years the woman has been on a well-deserved rest.

My husband died a year ago, he was 93 years old. My daughter lives in Volkovysk, works as a dentist, I have three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They come mainly on holidays, and work, especially in autumn, is always available on their site. Help from our volunteers is always helpful. Although I like to dig in the garden, put flowers in order, but still the forces are not the same. When young people come to you with such a friendly team, then the work goes well, and you can talk heart to heart. I am very grateful for such attention and help, it feels like the guys know how to hold a broomstick and rake in their hand – quickly and efficiently brought beauty to the yard.

Eight volunteers from the local school worked hard today. Young people collected all the fallen foliage from a large plot, put in order the garden and collected fresh harvest from it, washed the windows on the summer terrace, fed poultry. The girls swept the paths, collected fragrant quince fruits - homemade lemons, which the hostess Danna Poltorak likes to add to tea.

Nine-grader Anastasia Sologubik admitted that she really likes to help the older generation:

- I like to see the smiles and happiness in the eyes of the elderly people I help with. For us, this is feasible work, a couple of hours of work, and for a person – tangible support in a series of household chores. Immediately after that, they try to thank us in every possible way - they call for tea and treat us to homemade goodies.

- Today we tried to make this place as comfortable and beautiful as possible. Last weekend we helped in the same area and were happy to join again. I plan to connect my life with the Emergencies Ministry because I really like to help other people. Seeing this sincere gratitude from older people is very motivating to help them continue.

The volunteer initiative in our school has been implemented since the 5th grade, since then I have led the children by the hand. Such a kind initiative “Dobro.Bel”, aimed in October at special attention to the elderly, educates young people a real person who is always ready to help. When we go to the next address, the guys feel responsible. They see the pain, the inability of a person to clean their own homes or restore order in the courtyard. And willingly take up business, voluntarily distribute work among themselves where it is necessary.

- In Volkovysk district there are more than 600 volunteers ready to do everything possible for our residents, who for various reasons need support. In rural areas, helping the elderly is common. Every weekend, the volunteers head to the fixed addresses of seniors of different categories to make it easier for them to do their daily tasks. Volunteers help deliver food and medicine to the home, clean the entrances of the elderly, wash windows and clean the houses. It is especially great when the children during cleaning communicate, laugh, interact with each other, while understanding the benefits and joy they bring to our older generation.

- I am so glad that they are so helpful, they have fulfilled all my requests. Thank you to the teachers who teach our youth to work from an early age. The new generation, compared to before, does not move much. And such good youth initiatives allow you to switch from studying to physical labor. After such a labor landing, I feel great gratitude for the work done. The guys were good, spared no effort and time, completely devoted to the process. Thanks to this kind action, I feel that the state cares about me and helps me.
