It would seem that what is common between microphones from a karaoke club, a car trailer and a borenet, forgotten in car sharing? All these items were recently stolen from the owners. About what can turn out the desire to take someone else’s and what to do if you found a wallet on the street, said the first deputy head of the Partizan police Department of Minsk – the head of the police of public security Alexander Kumets, writes sb.by.

One of the common causes of theft is the mistaken belief that left unattended things do not belong to anyone, shares Alexander Kumets:
- In fact, it is still owned by the owner. Picking it up and stealing it is like stealing it. And this may entail criminal liability under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
Recently, a 33-year-old driver of a Minsk organization appropriated a trailer. The man for a long time studied the property left in the yard of a residential building. Without noticing the owner, I decided that no one needed the trailer. Then he took it to the village to his father, hoping to use it in the household. “Bonus” became building bricks, which were stored in the body.
- The man did not have time to use the trailer or bricks. The operatives established his involvement in the theft, seized the property and in the near future will return it to its rightful owner, the first deputy head of the Partizan police department comments.
Another story happened at a karaoke club. 37-year-old guest of the institution rested in the company of friends, drank alcohol and sang songs. When it came time to close the club, the woman did not want to finish her performance and decided to continue singing at home. She hid two microphones under her clothes and left the establishment.
- The cost of the stolen equipment was more than 1100 rubles. A criminal case was opened against a woman for theft, sums up Alexander Kumets.
A 37-year-old resident of the city found in a car-sharing car forgotten borsette. Instead of handing over the find to service personnel or reporting it to the police, he took the money inside and threw the documents into a dumpster. I drowned the bag in a pond. After that, the man went to the shopping center and purchased a new jacket with the appropriated funds. Law enforcement established his identity. A criminal case has also been initiated on this fact. The law enforcement officer reminds that it will not work with impunity to steal someone else's property:
- Police officers actively use the capabilities of the Republican public security monitoring system to solve such crimes. Cameras are installed in courtyards, streets, stops and other public places. Video recordings help to restore the circumstances of the incident, trace the route of the suspect and establish his identity. Therefore, no theft goes unnoticed.
How to protect your property:
• do not leave bicycles, scooters, bags and other valuables unattended;
• use reliable locks and anti-theft devices;
• do not store property in entrances, stairs and other public places;
• do not leave documents, money, phones and bags in the car, inspect the cabin before traveling on car sharing and immediately inform the operator about the things found;
keep documents, photos and serial numbers of expensive property.
If you find someone else's thing, give it to the administration of the institution, the driver of public transport, police officer or contact the owner if his data are known. Remember: left unattended things do not become ownerless. The desire to use someone else’s property can turn into a criminal case, not a “gift of fate”.
