The martyrs Sergius and Bacchus suffered in 290–303 during the persecution of Christians under the emperor Maximian. Sergius held a high position at the court of the emperor, and Bacchus was his faithful friend. When persecution began, both openly confessed their faith in Christ and refused to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods. They were severely tortured: Bacchus was beaten to death, and Sergius was beheaded after numerous tortures. The relics of the martyrs were the source of many miracles and healings.

St. Sergius of Pechersk lived in the 13th century and became famous for his unconditional obedience to the rector. The Monk Sergius of Nurom was a Greek by birth and received mentorship from Sergius of Radonezh. With the blessing of the teacher, he went north to the Nurma River, where he founded a monastery. He had to endure demonic temptations and attacks of robbers, from which he was saved through prayer. Many years after his death, the monk appeared to a pious man and ordered his grave to be cleared. When this was done, healing began to take place at the coffin.

Morning in Russia it was customary to start with washing with sour milk or yogurt. People believed it preserved beauty and youth. The women wore a new headscarf so they wouldn’t have a headache all year. The furnace in the house was melted by the youngest member of the family, then winter promised to be warm and cozy.

They tried to feed livestock immediately at dawn: it was believed that then they would not starve in winter. Men were engaged in preparing sleds for winter, and women - needlework. Stocks were also counted that day. Girls who wanted to preserve the beauty for a long time, washed with sour milk.

The day was devoted to the care of the house, animals and good deeds:

The day is associated with many prohibitions, the violation of which, according to legend, could attract trouble:

The weather on this day was judged on how winter will be and how soon it will come:

Dreams on the night of October 20 are filled with a soft but profound energy of change. The subconscious mind opens the door between the past and the future, revealing what you are already letting go and what is ready to enter your life.

If you dream of roads, tracks, trains or bridges, this is a sign of transition. You are not where you were, but not where you should be. Such a dream indicates inner growth and willingness to take an important step in love, work or your own decisions.

Water or rain in a dream symbolizes purification. Everything old that has accumulated in the soul goes away. After such dreams, a person often feels the ease and desire to start again.
